Living life as a peasant isn’t your typical fun life. As a peasant I get up each morning have little breakfast and spend long hours at backbreaking work in the fields. I work very hard at my job for very little. I grow lots of crops and I only can provide about 20% of those crops for my family. I do this because this is the life I was born in. I either do it or die. I also do it for the protection of me and my family. As long as I provide food for the one above me I will get that protection
I am at the bottom of the feudal system first comes the kings then nobles, the knights and then there’s me I work for everyone above me. I am not a free man and I wouldn’t dare go against my master. Another name for me is a serf. I can barley support my family. This is not a life someone would want to have.
The type of living shelter I live in is basically huts. Really maybe not even that other peasants don’t even have the opportunity to live where I live. My basic meal consist black bread, lentils some vegetables and ale. I can not afford meat and I am forbidden to hunt on the lord’s land.
The types of clothing I wear are usually rough wool or linen. Women like me also wore spun wool into threads and. I had only one set of clothing; two at most. My husband wore coarse tunics, and long stockings or leggings. My outer garments were never washed.. In cold weather I would have worn sheepskin or woolen cloaks, woolen hats, and woolen mittens to keep out the rain and cold.
During my cropping I grew crops of beans, barley, rye, and wheat. I had a vegetable garden near my home that provided onions, peas, beans, radishes, carrots, and other vegetables. With all these things near I can not take any of them I have to provide them to the ones above.
This life that I lived is not something I wanted my children to go thorough I never wanted my children to have to struggle like this. I was sad because as soon as my child started walking and taking that means it was time to train them to work. Basically all peasants would live and work in the village in which they were born in.
Every last thing that I owned my food, home, and animal all belonged to the lord of the manor. Known as serfs I was required to work for my lord and in return I was allowed to farm my own little piece of land. To gain freedom I had to save money for my own land or marry a free person. This was hard to do a difficult life to live.
As a result living life as a peasant was generally hard. There wasn’t much I could do about it. I had very little. I worked from sun up to sun down. I put shame upon my family and felt bad that I could not provide much for my family. I live life struggling everyday. I lived worked and died in my village. Everyday I had the same schedule.
